Guest Speaker
Our Guest Speaker this week was Mr David Thomas. David has spoken to the Club on previous occasions on the Perth Royal Agricultural Show. He is a past President and current Board Member. He noted that the Association has its first female President. Most of the land of the Showgrounds is freehold and the group has made a firm decision that it will not move from the site or sell any part of its land holdings. They have a plan for redevelopment which they have been negotiating with the Town of Claremont and State Government for many years but on which they are now achieving some consensus. The plan may incorporate some short term accommodation but it will not include residential apartment buildings despite pressure from Government. It costs about $12.5M to put on the Show. Due to concerns over the risk of a bird flu epidemic, there will be no chickens or other birds at the Show this year.
David Thomas was thanked on behalf of the Club by John Tick
2 Minute Noodles Please remember that 2 minute Noodles are meant to be 2 minutes, not 10 minutes, it is important for the flow of the meeting that they are no longer than 4 minutes maximum please.
Arthur Blaquiere recounted his trip to Indonesia. He was working as part of a team submitting a proposal for a significant job. Arthur took his wife because his journey took him to his mother's birthplace. The bid for the large job was unsuccessful but, as a consolation, he won another large job during the trip.
