Our Guest Speaker this week was our very own Corrin Caine who stepped in at short notice. Corrin gave us an introduction to a paper he is writing on colonisation. He gave us a brief outline of colonisation over the past 70,000 years but he is particularly interested in the reasons that led to the western european countries being the drivers of colonisation of the world, with a particular interest in Australia, in recent history. He cited "Kin Structures" and the Catholic Church as a couple of reasons and introduced us to an acronym for the common features of those countries involved in colonisation. The acronym is WEIRD which stands for Western, Educated, Industrialised, Rich and Democratic.

John Van Vliet told us about the issues with EV's (cars, bicycles and scooters) in apartment buildings. We heard that charging of EV's is not allowed in most apartment buildings due to the risk of fire and the limitations imposed through insurance policies. If charging stations are installed, they are typically outside the building and the users must pay. The most common cause of disputes between neighbours in apartment buildings was once noise but now it is EV's.

Kym MacCormack will be walking in the Blue Dragon Community Walk event Sunday 13 September starting at Langley Park at 6:30am.
Kym also reminded us about our next International Dinner at CU29 on Thurs Nov 19th. The cost has not yet been decided.
Bernie Foley explained that the Club was sponsoring two awards for Doctors at the Perth Children's Hospital. The Presentation of the awards will be made at the Perth Children's Hospital on Thursday, 3rd of December. This will be in lieu of our normal Club breakfast meeting. All members are encouraged to attend.
Sergeant's Session
Sergeant Geoff let us rest this week to get over the shock of last week's fines session. But this Editor has it on good authority that Geoff is looking forward to extracting some more gold coin next week - be prepared.
