Breakfast meeting update - Thursday 12 August 2019
A big thanks for an insightful presentation by All Saint College Principal, Belinda Provis who spoke about the importance of community values and teaching kids to live and act with empathy and respect.
Our Sgt John was on fine form on Thursday morning with a plethera of fines being imposed:
Late – Geoff Hick, Byron Kakulas, Elizabeth Gory, Tony Delich, Mally Rall, Arthur Blaquiere and last but not least, Ian Hutton
Nigel Blacklock – for his poor excuses surrounding the All Blacks loss and of course Geoff Woods being married to a Kiwi
Rotarian Spouses at Swap Mart (Arthur, Neil & Peter) all of whom left with more than they arrived with…!
Peter Blockley blamed for not collecting all the signs
International Left Handers Day – Stephen & Sandy the privileged few
Cricket at Lords first day wash out - Geoff Simpson - local water rep was away, so Pat Emery took the blame (as a gardener of note!)
Sgt John shared with us an interview he listened to during the week, highlighting the dangers of smart phones and how, in fact they are all making us stupid so all with a smart phone were fined…

In 2018, our Club provided vital funds to the registered Australian Charity, Hands on India. Hands On India works to support the community around Siliguri, West Bengal, in North-East India – an area bordered by Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and China.
What began as annual trips to provide chiropractic and basic health care to a region, has grown to supporting a community that was locked in poverty and lacking education. Much of the community works on tea plantations picking 20kg bags of tea and breaking river stones by hand to sell for road base and building works. This population consists of many minority groups, tribals and vulnerable illiterate people who live on $1-$2 per day.
Hands on India now provides financial support for 7 schools, and over 700 children, in their local rock breaking or tea picking communities. Our funds provide schools, teachers and learning materials for these children.
Over 2300 women are part of Women’s Empowerment Groups and secure funds which they use to purchase piglets and goats, sewing machines or learn skills to run small businesses allowing them to build financial independence for their families and form community support networks.
